ALSO KNOWN AS MONITORED VISITATION, CHILD ACCESS, AND SUPERVISED ACCESS

Contact between a non-residential parent and child(ren) in the presence of an unbiased third party responsible for observing the visit and ensuring the safety of those involved.

VMS Supervised Visits are:

Off-Site

Off-site visits allows parents to participate in time-sharing at various community locations, including parks, bowling alleys, shopping facilities, pottery-painting studios, the beach, libraries, recreation centers, and many other locations. In-home visits may be an option for some families.

Flexible

VMS offers flexible scheduling during weekdays and weekends, half-day visits, whole day visits, and options in between.

Documented

VMS documents each visit’s location, duration, monitor, and parental compliance with VMS policies. A full narrative of the visits are available per the fee schedule.

“Orders allowing a family member to supervise visitation or visitation exchanges do not adequately address safety and place the family member at risk of violence or manipulation….Family members are also more likely to tolerate inappropriate behavior or violations of the visitation order.” -American Bar Association Commission on Domestic Violence (Policy OOA109A)
